Navi Mumbai: The Kalamboli schoolgirl rape case, in which a teacher has been arrested, has now been transferred to the Navi Mumbai crime branch for further investigation.
On Friday, the judicial magistrate’s court at Panvel extended police remand of the accused, Firoz Ibrahim, by four days. Ibrahim, a junior college biology teacher, was arrested last week after the seven-year-old victim, a Std III student, identified him as the accused from a school photo album and also in person. The second accused in the case is wanted by the police and remains unidentified. DCP (crime), D T Shinde, told TOI: “We have just taken over the case. I have spoken to the officials at the State Forensic Laboratory to expedite the DNA sampling and analysis report. We will crack the case soon.”
Meanwhile, locals observed Kalamboli Bandh on Thursday. All shops in the area remained shut.
