Cloudy thoughts

A cloudy morning fills you with calm and hope. You wake up with your head full of ‘to do's, ‘not done's and ‘could haves's'. And then the milky light outside suddenly makes you blank out. Something's changed. A season has turned leaf. Literally. The heat is still exhausting. But the pinch is gone. You still drip like a coke can out of the freezer (minus the chill!) but the thought of dripping leaves and windows is soothing.

One half of the year is over. (Or almost two quarter's if you are in recession mode.) What a relief for those who have counted each day of 2009 as a day closer to the next one, pegged as the year of recovery. So far so good. For those who largely spent the winter and summer wondering what the slowdown hype is about, carry on folks! You don't know what hit you, and for once that's a good thing.

For the complaint happy types sweat is replaced by sticky shoes and mucky feet. You might never be able to appreciate the fragrance of wet earth and that is a shame. The worry junkies are getting stress kicks from flood blues. If you fall in this category of Mumbaikars, its time to do a monsoon drive along the Sahyadris. There is no better way to learn monsoon appreciation in my opinion than to see parched farm lands soak up each drop like thirsty children after a game in the sun. And farmers who smile like they hit gold as they wade through knee deep slush in rice fields.

As for me, the monsoon is my spring. Its time for seeding of new dreams. And my annual wonder. Just how does nature manage to keep its word and time, always? If it can, so should we.
